Use Premium Quality Paint for Best Painting Results

Customers call Kevin Palmer Painting to receive the best interior and exterior paint job possible. Having been in the painting business for nearly a half century, we have the knowledge, experience, and skillsets necessary to select and apply only the best and most appropriate paints from the world’s top manufacturers. Here are some of the things we consider when selecting a premium quality paint for your home:

Adhesion to a properly prepared surface is paramount. If a product does not adhere to the surface, nothing else matters. If a house shows evidence of moisture problems, we will select an appropriate product for that concern. Some coatings tend to offer optimum breathability and permeability. As moisture is the leading cause of paint peeling problems, the ability of a coating to permit moisture transfer without bubbling and blistering is important. Using a premium quality paint in a high moisture environment increases the probability that the coating will remain intact and protect the surface while decreasing the probability of future peeling problems.

Resistance to mold and mildew is a vital consideration if a freshly painted home is going to retain its good looks. At Kevin Palmer Painting we always power wash prior to painting to make sure the surface is free of mold and mildew before we paint. Then we select a coating that will be resistant to the future regrowth of organic elements. We also recommend proper actions on homes afflicted with artillery fungus.

A paint product’s ability to overcome the problems associated with chalking and erosion is critical. Chalking results when paint oxidizes and washes off. Over time excess chalkiness results in this oxidized film washing down onto surfaces below. Chalking creates discoloration and is easily avoided with proper paint product selection. Likewise, when a gutter overflows or there is excess water runoff onto a home’s siding, discoloration will mar the painted surface. Proper product selection and usage eliminates these issues.

Paint’s successful ability to deal with the issue of color and gloss retention is critical to maintain a paint job’s visual appeal, Sun, rain, and Mother Nature conspire to wreak havoc on a home’s exterior. Oftentimes one exposure of a home becomes a different color than another. Likewise the sheen of paint will diminish over time, resulting in a loss of gloss, particularly noticeable on windows, shutters, doors, and trim. Touch-up of these areas if needed can be difficult because of the variations of color and gloss. The selection and use of superior paint products helps make these paint problems a non-event.

Washability, scrubability, durability are also important considerations in the selection of a paint. They affect a paint job’s longevity and ease of future maintenance. Anyone who has ever tried to remove dirt from a painted surface can certainly attest to the importance of these considerations.

Finally, at Kevin Palmer Painting our commitment to the environment is paramount. Wherever possible, we paint using “green” products, formulated to have low VOC’s or no VOC’s. These premium quality paint products minimize odors, and help everyone concerned with good stewardship of the environment.

Premium Quality Paint

Let me close by restating that premium quality paint is important to the overall outcome of your painting project. At Kevin Palmer Painting, we’ve had exceptional results in pairing product selection with surface conditions. Our expertise and knowledge of paints and stains enables us to give our customers the best paint job possible.

Spring Painting

Spring is the perfect time of year to start thinking about what needs to be done around the home to keep it in tip top shape. House painting should be at the top of every homeowner’s list.

Painter West Hartford CT: Get a Spring Painting check-up! Perfectly maintained by Kevin Palmer Painting.

A high quality paint job will enhance a property’s curb appeal, increase its market value, and protect a home from the wear and tear caused by Mother Nature.

Weather can be unforgiving on a home. Snow, rain, wind, and the harsh effects of the sun all create problems which need attention. At Kevin Palmer Painting we closely examine your home to look for signs of weather related deterioration, and we offer solutions and corrections for these problems.

Moisture causes more damage to a house than any other element. As such we pay particular attention to the causes, sources, and solutions to problems created by water.

We look closely for wood rot. Oftentimes window frames, door frames, and sills show signs of deterioration. If caught early enough, the skilled painters of Kevin Palmer Painting can dig out the impacted sections and repair the damage with a specially formulated patching compound. More extensive decay, often resulting from deferred maintenance, will require the skills of a carpenter to replace the damaged siding and trim.

Painter Canton, CT: Soon this water damaged window sill will be as good as new courtesy of a little TLC from the house painting professionals of Kevin Palmer Painting.

Rotted panels on garage doors are another result of water damage. This type of deterioration is often caused by splash back issues which can be corrected with adequate gutters properly maintained. Kevin Palmer Painting will assist our clients in replacing the damaged overhead door panels and offer solutions regarding gutter and drainage issues.

Painter Simsbury CT: Rob, an expert house painter with Kevin Palmer Painting brings this garage door back to “like new” condition, saving the customer from costly replacement repairs.

Areas above roofs, decks, foundations, and landscaping need to be examined closely for signs of problems. Snow sits against the house most winters and rain splashes back onto the siding causing peeling problems and potential damage. Wear and tear of this type is difficult to avoid, but thorough painting at regular intervals will protect the siding and trim from needing to be replaced and drastically reduce long-term maintenance costs.

Damage from snow and ice dams and roofs in need of repair and/or replacement are examples of water damage which if detected and corrected early enough can literally save the informed homeowner tens of thousands of dollars. The house painting professionals at Kevin Palmer Painting have decades of experience helping our painting customers recognize these issues and avoid costly repairs.

Painter Avon CT: Careful priming of exposed wood lays the foundation for a beautiful, long-lasting paint job. Rusty works his magic!

A qualified painting contractor will also look for signs of mold and mildew as they are precursors of problems to come. Our expert power washing service makes short shrift of mold and mildew issues. Followed by a great paint job with paints containing a mildewcide and fungicide additive, pressure washing will help keep the home looking perfect.

Painter Farmington CT: Mold and mildew are a distant memory after Kevin Palmer Painting power washes this beautiful home.

Paint fading inconsistently, poor color retention, excessive chalking, and erosion concerns are all issues that the house painting experts of Kevin Palmer Painting have extensive experience detecting and solving for our customers.

We hope you will pick up the phone and call us today. Ask for a spring painting checkup or audit. You will be glad you did, and your home will thank you!

A Beautiful Avon CT House Painting Project, Successfully Completed

Kevin Palmer Painting recently finished the exterior painting of a gentleman’s estate in Avon, CT. The owner of this beautiful property is a successful businessman who has entrusted the painting professionals of Kevin B. Palmer, Inc. with his painting requirements for four decades. In fact the quality of our painting workmanship and superior customer service has led to extensive additional painting projects for family members, neighbors, friends, and business associates. Being the best at your profession and exceeding high expectations have their rewards!

Avon CT house painting

This Avon estate receives regular TLC from the master house painters of Kevin Palmer Painting.

We have painted this home numerous times over the past 40 years. Each time we face a different set of challenges. Paint and stain manufacturers have evolving products designed to meet ever changing environmental mandates. Kevin Palmer Painting prides itself with product knowledge which enables us to use paints and stains which best suit our customer’s needs.

We only use the best quality paints and stains from proven manufacturers Benjamin Moore, Glidden, and Sherwin Williams. From these manufacturers we select paints and stains which meet our exacting requirements. Color retention, adhesion, resistance to cracking & blistering, mildew resistance, resistance to erosion, and the adverse effects of the sun and elements are concerns we address when selecting the best paint for our painting clientele.

And of course the color selected by our customer will be matched exactly. Actual brush-out samples are made for customer consideration and approval. Kevin Palmer Painting has numerous painting resources to further assist our customers including custom color matching, color palettes on demand, virtual paint color selection from the comfort of your home, and even decorator assistance from a skilled trained colorist.

Avon CT House Painting by Painting Experts

Avon CT House Painting: Careful attention to detail is visible from every angle!

This project also involved a rather unique dilemma: How do you power wash a home with newly installed self-cleaning windows without damaging the glass coating? The homeowner had a friend whose windows were ruined ($30,000. worth of damage) by a contractor who destroyed the unique film coating on the glass. Kevin Palmer Painting was aware of the potential for problems and developed a power washing protocol which successfully removed mold and mildew from the home’s exterior without any damage to the windows. Problem solved!

Over 60 years experience between these 2 professional house painters at Kevin Palmer Painting! Why trust anyone else?

Next we carefully prepared the home for painting and applied 2 coats of premium grade paint products to the exterior of the home. The result speaks for itself: PERFECTION!!

Description Of Work: Exterior painting project in West Hartford CT

Member Comments:

I am a retired college professor who researched and published articles and books on organizations. I also am a 70 year-old homeowner who needs to think prudently about the cost as well as the quality of any work done on our home. Kevin Palmer and his men earned the highest rank in both categories. Kevin himself is a total professional. He also is a decent human being. His men reflect both of these qualities. As a professional, Kevin devoted more time to carefully estimating the work to be done prior to submitting his estimate than anyone else in the five decades I have owned a home. His men took genuine care and pride in their (and I mean it) work. They spent more time, with real “elbow grease,” scraping, sanding and preparing our house for painting (and its many windows for caulking) than any painters I ever have employed. In comparison, the last crew of just a few years ago merely “dusted” in preparation before they began painting. And a lasting paint job is all about preparation. Kevin’s men, or at least the one’s I met — Charley, Ron, Walter, and Randy — are professionals themselves with decades of work experience as individuals and together. Like Kevin, they too are good and decent men. I know, for being retired, I had a bit more time to get to know them. They all have character, and don’t just care about their work – they genuinely enjoy working with each other, as I did having them around. It could be that a psychologist would call them individually and as a crew, “congruent.” In the area of costs, Kevin’s men power washed the paint on our house, used only the highest quality paint, and even took down an old TV antenna on our roof – and the price I paid still was competitive with other estimates. Organizationally, I’ve never seen a more dedicated or professional group of craftsmen do a better job together than these good men. Kevin deserves honest credit for selecting and maintaining this crew, as these men do for making it up. I never have been more satisfied with any work done on our home. Kevin and his men earned every word in this piece.

Company Response:

Thank you very much for selecting Kevin B. Palmer, Inc. for painting services on your lovely home. We are very appreciative and grateful for your referrals and will always do our best to support your confidence in our work.

Due Diligence: Spend Time Now And Avoid Problems Later

Monday, May 9th, 2011

The other day I received an email from an individual wanting an internet painting quote. Her message read as follows: “New room – sheetrocked and taped, paint ready. Ceiling (8ft), sloped to 4′ knee walls, one closet, trim around window doors and baseboard. About 16×20. “

And that was it. The individual wanted to know “the bottom line.”  The potential customer wanted me to quote on this work sight unseen, and was undoubtedly contracting the entire project in this fashion. I declined to quote.

House painting is an investment in a home that, if done correctly, pays long-term dividends and enhances a home’s value and appearance. Or as our customers say, “House painting by Kevin Palmer Painting looks better, lasts longer, and offers the ultimate in beauty and protection.” At Kevin Palmer Painting, we take a synergistic approach to painting, bringing together many different elements to achieve a greater result not obtainable independently.

Kevin Palmer Painting insists on meeting with potential painting clients to discuss their house painting needs. A responsible painter will not simply “leave the price in the mailbox.” There are too many variables needing to be clarified in order to serve a customer’s best interests.

What is the condition of the ceilings and walls? Has the taping been done properly? How will paint sheen affect the finish product? Flat finishes hides a multitude of sins while sheen enhances wash ability. Lighting needs to be considered as it reflects off ceilings and walls. Is paint odor a consideration? Some products contain more VOC’s than others, and paint performance i.e. wash ability, scrub ability, resistance to mold and mildew, resistance to fading, ease of touch-up etc. are all factors which need to be considered and discussed. Who will be doing the work? How long have they been a house painter? How long have the painters worked for your company? Are the painters supervised?

At Kevin Palmer Painting we understand the devil is in the details. The house painters at Kevin Palmer Painting wear booties over their shoes to protect our customer’s floors. Smoking is never permitted; our trained professional painters are punctual, polite, skilled, and hard-working. We take care of our customer’s homes whether carefully covering furniture or making sure the perennial bed against the side of the house is protected.

In fact “the bottom line” is made up of so many variables, it is incumbent on the homeowner to spend time with their painting contractor, review the project, address needs and concerns, and attain a level of comfort insuring that the homeowner and contractor are on the same page.

At Kevin Palmer Painting, we have been servicing the interior painting, exterior painting, house staining, power washing, and low pressure roof cleaning needs of fine homes in West Hartford CT and the surrounding Farmington Valley towns of Avon CT, Bloomfield CT, Canton CT, Farmington CT, Granby CT, and Simsbury CT for nearly a half century. If you are considering investing in the best painting work possible and want to discuss your next residential painting, commercial painting, or power washing project you can reach us at (860) 658-2441 or visit us on the web at www.kevinpalmerpainting.com .
