Talk about a deck with a view!

Tuesday, August 18th, 2020

Every so often the professional painters of Kevin Palmer Painting have the opportunity to work at a job site so beautiful that it makes coming to work like going on vacation. Restoring the deck for an Avon, Connecticut couple was one of those opportunities.

The homeowners wanted to protect and preserve their deck overlooking the Farmington Valley. They chose Kevin Palmer Painting to undertake this project.

The initial evaluation of the deck showed that the deck had been well maintained over the years but needed to be sanded to remove coatings which had deteriorated over time.

The floor was professionally sanded leaving a surface ready for preparatory work to begin. The painting professionals of Kevin Palmer Painting thoroughly cleaned the deck as the 1st step in the coating process. Discolored areas as were treated to remove stains and discoloration where grills and furniture markings showed over time. Loose floor boards were secured as needed and the deck was soon ready for coating.

The homeowners followed the recommendations of Kevin Palmer Painting and elected to use a top-quality preservative that would enhance the beauty of the wood allowing the grain and natural beauty of the wood to show through. The clear preservative would protect the wood from snow and rain and exposure to the sun.

A premium product manufactured by Sherwin-Williams was used. The painters boxed the preservative to ensure uniformity of finish and began their work.

Care was taken to cover and protect the surrounding house, patio areas, and landscaping. The painters worked with the grain of the wood, overlapping as required to ensure a uniform, rich finish.

The staining of this deck came out beautiful. The homeowners were a pleasure to work with and the deck has been protected from Mother Nature and looks wonderful! With the vacation project complete, the painters of Kevin Palmer Painting were soon off to their next project.

What a Difference a Color Makes!

Kevin Palmer Painting recently completed another exterior painting project in Simsbury Connecticut.

Our professional painters gave this vintage colonial an exterior update.

The owners wanted to refresh their home’s appearance and give it a timeless appeal. They certainly succeeded. The color looks beautiful and the finish blends perfectly with the surrounding landscaping and plantings.

This home has aluminum siding that was oxidized and needed cleaning. Power washing removed the chalking and surface contaminants. A biodegradable, environmentally friendly cleanser used to remove mold and mildew, and the house was ready for painting.

Our men prepared the house for painting. Attention was paid to details necessary to achieve a beautiful, durable, long-lasting paint finish. Holes were filled with epoxy patching compound, loose paint was removed and sanded, and stains were given a coat of shellac.

The painters then applied a beautiful finish to the home’s exterior. The work was done with state-of-the-art airless equipment enabling us to provide the ultimate finish. No brush marks, no lap marks, no dribbles or sags! The house looks brand-new and the new paint job will provide a maintenance free surface for years to come.

The owners have great taste and were a pleasure to work for. Their color selection was beautiful and the painting professionals at Kevin Palmer Painting were proud to have been selected to complete this exterior painting project.

The painting professionals at Kevin Palmer Painting were thrilled to paint the exterior of a modern Simsbury classic. Admired by many, this gorgeous house, designed and built by John Hartwell, is both beautiful and elegant. The painting project included restoring an historic carriage barn which is part of this magical property.

As the first part of the painting process, the house and barn were carefully and thoroughly power washed. Care was taken to protect the landscaping and beautiful flower beds surrounding the house and barn. Mold and mildew were removed, paving the way for the next stage of the exterior painting process, the preparatory work. Scraping and sanding off loose paint ensured a sound foundation for the new coatings. The window sash on the carriage barn were glazed and restored to their original grandeur. Caulking of the trim insured a watertight seal and shellac was applied to the knot holes to eliminate bleed through.

The painters then applied Sherwin-Williams Woodscape stain to the siding and Sherwin-Williams Duration paint to the trim.

The results speak for themselves.

Using only premium grade products will protect the house and barn well into the future. The house and carriage barn look beautiful!

Of particular satisfaction in painting this home was to be part of the history of this home. John Hartwell, the home’s builder, is a close friend. John Hartwell designed and built this home with a commitment to quality and craftsmanship rarely found these days. The home is sensitive to the magnificent landscape environment and blends with the beautiful meadows and rolling hills surrounding the home.

The color John originally selected for this home is the color most often requested by our customers, Hartwell Yellow. How nice to have a color name for a special person. It’s a beautiful color that enhances the property and at the same time blends with the surrounding grounds.

The present owners were an absolute delight to work for. They love their home and maintain their property in the best possible manner. Kevin Palmer Painting was proud and honored to be selected to complete the exterior painting for them. This magnificent house and carriage barn have been lovingly and painstakingly restored and painted and are a beautiful part of the Simsbury landscape.

The painters used decades of professional painting experience to ensure this landmark property was preserved to the highest standards. The painting process began with power washing the home’s exterior. Roof washing was next on the agenda. As always, throughout the painting process the beautiful landscaping was protected. Next the painters tackled the preparatory work. Scraping, sanding, spot priming, and glazing the windows laid the groundwork to prepare this beautiful home for its finish. Carpentry repairs included restoring some siding, trim and window sills and then on to the finish painting. Top-quality premium grade paints and stains were lovingly applied to the home’s exterior.

We couldn’t be happier with the results! It was an honor to be able to restore this beautiful home in a manner that preserves and protects the home going forward. We Paint Mansions

Tuesday, June 6th, 2017

Kevin Palmer Painting has provided interior and exterior professional painting services to residential and commercial customers for over 50 years.

Looking back upon our company’s growth and evolution, it is with a great sense of pride of accomplishment and acknowledgment and appreciation of our good fortune that we look to the future.

When Kevin Palmer Painting began business in the 1960s, oil-based paints were the gold standard, solid body stains were rarely used, and airless spray applications were unheard of.

The first home we painted was our parents’ home in Simsbury Connecticut. Our father purchased Sears Best Weather Beater paint, provided the brushes and drop cloths, and just like that, we were in business! Our mother was a perfectionist and was skeptical at best.

The house took longer to paint than we ever imagined, but we certainly learned a lot. Painting our parents’ home taught us the importance of preparation work, the need to be knowledgeable about paint products and tool usage, and an appreciation for the importance and necessity of doing quality work. We had to please our (scared to death) mom who envisioned a disaster of epic proportions.

Our hard work paid off. The job was a success! Our parent’s neighbors noticed our hard work and their beautifully painted home, and soon we were receiving calls from others to paint their homes. Our prices were fair, the quality of our work was excellent, and over time we developed a reputation for providing a superior paint job and long-lasting value.

As time progressed and our painting business grew, we needed to hire additional painters. We always hired the best persons possible and our choice of quality individuals was key to our growth and success. We trained our painters using best practices, taught everyone to pay attention to detail, and insisted that the job site always be kept neat. Our painters, some of whom have been with us for over 30 years, have been the key to our success. To a person, our painters are highly skilled, professional, honest, and very nice people.

Over the years we’ve had the good fortune of painting over 5000 houses in the West Hartford Connecticut and Farmington Valley towns. We have had the opportunity to paint some of the most beautiful properties in the area. The name Kevin Palmer Painting has become synonymous with quality work. We have painted small houses, large houses, and everything in between.

One day a potential customer introduced himself to us and remarked “I know you guys! You paint mansions!” Recognizing the sincerity of the person’s words it was not lost on us how we had established our reputation. We developed our painting and pressure washing business reputation by providing the best quality work, combined with excellent service, for the most demanding and discriminating customers in our community. By treating everyone’s home with the utmost care and recognizing that everyone’s home is their mansion, Kevin Palmer Painting has prospered.

We hope you will consider Kevin Palmer Painting for your next painting or pressure washing project. We proudly service the interior and exterior painting and pressure washing needs for customers in Avon CT, Bloomfield CT, Canton CT, Farmington CT, Granby CT, Simsbury CT, and West Hartford CT. With spring around the corner, it’s time for Kevin Palmer Painting to transition from interior painting projects to power washing, roof cleaning, and exterior house painting.

All of our professional painters are anxious to once again be able to work outdoors. Sunshine and fresh air do wonders for the spirit. Before we can begin our exterior work, however, there is much to do to get ready.

One of the first orders of business is to make sure all of our equipment is ready to go.

We thoroughly check our trucks and vehicles for safety. We make sure that everything is mechanically sound, inspecting the tires, brakes, and all mechanical systems. We check the ladder racks to make sure everything will be secure. All doors must latch properly and the vans must be loaded with the necessary equipment, sundries, and supplies.

Step letter trays must be secure and in good working condition.

Each of our painters will be issued a set of new brushes. Kevin Palmer Painting has always used only the finest brushes available. Nylon bristle brushes are used for acrylic paint and China bristle brushes are used for oil-based products.
